2017

Saradise, 93250 Kuching, Sarawak.

It is an office layered away from home, and an office of layers.
As a continuation from the previous home-based office, the design is so that there is an essence of home in the new office. It is an office ‘layer’ extracted from home, and in this new ‘layer’ itself spatial layering is achieved with dividers and screens.

A large pivoted steel door stands as the leading feature in the workplace. It separates the meeting room from the lounge, but on quarter rotation brings forth one spacious space. Another layering comes with a divider of steel framed glass panels. It draws a mild boundary layer between the lounge and the office without sacrificing visual continuity.

At the shopfront, a one-piece motorised sunscreen spans across the large glazing, controlling the amount of daylight penetrating into the workspace. A roller blind cum projector screen hangs at the other end of the office where the meeting room is. Thus the pair of screens monitor the inside-outside visual connection. Coupled with the pair of interior space dividers, altogether they render spatial and visual layerings to the workplace, making Office of Layers a realisation.
